curriculum-based training
As a member of the Carlos Machado Jiu-jitsu Association, Ronin BJJ follows a curriculum-based approach that allows students to progress consistently toward their potential by mastering the fundamentals of self-defense as well as techniques more applicable to jiu-jitsu as a competitive sport.
something for everyone
Our adult classes are made up of everyone from teens to retirees. You’ll train police officers, moms and dads, veterans, college athletes and those who never considered themselves athletes before, office workers, plumbers, teachers, and everyone in between.
Our BJJ Fundamentals classes focus on core techniques, concepts, and movements to help new students build a solid foundation of skills and for more advanced students to review and hone their art. Our Intermediate/Advanced BJJ classes encompass a more wide-ranging curriculum of skills and techniques to add depth and understanding and help you build your own game. All classes are open to all students regardless of belt level.
What to expect
Expect to have fun. Expect to sweat. Regardless of your age, skill level, or level of athleticism, you’ll find like-minded partners challenging themselves mentally and physically in as they explore the art of Brazilian jiu-jitsu together.
brazilian jiu-jitsu
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is like a chess match on a mat, but with a splash of adrenaline and a sprinkle of strategy, where you use not just brute force but clever techniques to gain the upper hand.
BJJ started with the Gracie family in Brazil, who took elements of traditional Japanese Jiu-Jutsu and Judo and gave them a Brazilian twist, forming an art where the little guy could defeat the big guy with position, balance, leverage, and technique.
In BJJ, you’ll find yourself in positions with quirky names like “closed guard," “ full mount," and “back control," each a mini-battlefield where you maneuver and outsmart your opponent.
What makes BJJ really exciting is the live sparring, or “rolling." This isn’t just practice; it's a real test of your skills in action, where you get to apply what you’ve learned in dynamic, ever-changing scenarios. It’s like a puzzle where the pieces are constantly moving, and you’ve got to think three steps ahead.
So whether you're looking to defend yourself, compete in tournaments, or just have a blast while staying fit, BJJ offers an engaging and rewarding experience. It’s a journey of constant learning, problem-solving, and yes, a lot of fun.
